Did you ever think fasting for weight loss could be easy? Me neither! But I’ve been proven wrong during my new diet plan.

Welcome to the third blog post in a series of posts of my book review of the easy weight loss diet by author Joel Marion in his new book, Always Eat After 7 pm: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent SnacksβWhile Burning Fat Overnight.
If youβve missed the first and second blog posts about what this weight loss book is about and my health goals and plan, you can check them out there.
After finishing this book, I’m really pleased with the valuable information about weight loss. Joel Marion provided one simple rule to fasting to lose weight, itβs absolutely OK to eat after 7 pm. It was easy to understand, easy to follow, and his book gave me hope that I can really lose weight after having two babies by embracing the false myth that it’s βbad to eat after 7 pmβ.
βAlways Eat After 7 pm is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriestβin the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. Itβs all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods.β
I like that the author, Joel Marion provides a realistic and doable action plan to lose weight. In the book, he provides food lists, several sample meal plans and easy to follow recipes. I use a lot of mental power being a work from home mom of two, managing a household, and running a business. Mental fatigue is real. So it’s a relief to be handed a real plan on a silver platter that can be tailored to my needs as a breastfeeding mom.
Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.
Weβve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal
One of the things I really liked about this book were the pages of healthy recipes. It is like a mini cookbook. I love to eat and I love to cook. Feeding my family is my love language. If I care for you, I will always try to feed you. With that said, I go through phases where I like to make delicious comfort food that my family loves and healthier options that are tasty but sometimes underwhelming, if I am being honest.
Also being West Indian and married to a Colombian, my cooking is sometimes heavy. I use rice, beans, meat, pasta, and cheese. Lots and lots of cheese.
So I was excited to try one of the healthier recipes in Joelβs new book, Always Eat After 7 pm.
I tried the Cheesy Beef Skillet and it was surprisingly so delicious. I have never made anything like this before but the flavors of the rice, beans, cheese, and beef were perfect together. It also took less than an hour to make from start to finish.

I loved the flavors of this skillet so much that I made double so I can freeze some to enjoy another night when I am too busy to cook. To make it my own, I also added a few slices of avocado and a spoonful of salsa.
βGoing without breakfast is part of intermittent fasting (IF), also called time-restricted feeding (TRF). IF is a pattern of food consumption that cycles between fasting and eating in specific time periods. There are various ways to do it; one of the most common is the 16/8 protocol, which involves 16 hours of fastingβtypically done overnightβwith an 8-hour window in which to eat each day.β
I have been against intermittent fasting in the past because I did not know much about it. And since I am breastfeeding, I thought it was something I could not do. Joel Marion, actually advises against intermittent fasting for breastfeeding moms, but Iβve missed so many breakfasts just from being too busy to eat, that I decided to try fasting for easy weight loss on some days.
This diet plan even allows for cheat meals and wine on occasion during the week. I like to enjoy a glass or two of wine from time to time so this was great.
After just a couple of weeks of intermittent fasting a couple days a week, and eating a light breakfast (as he suggests in the book for nursing mothers) of coffee or metagreens and some protein on the other days, I feel more energized, lighter, and I am sleeping better at night despite having an infant who still wakes up twice in the middle of the night to nurse.
As I add in weight lifting four days a week using my at home workout program and continue fasting for easy weight loss, I am excited to see how my body changes over the next few weeks.
