If you have a toddler under the age of 5, you are probably well aware of who Blippi is and how obsessed children have become with him. If you arenβt familiar with Blippiβ¦ just wait for it. Heβs coming!
Blippi is a beloved childrenβs entertainer and educator on YouTube, HULU, Amazon, and now, as I am writing this, Netflix teaches kids age 2-10 their ABCs, 123s, colors, and big words such as excavator using song and dance.
Blippi is a children’s animated video creator who teaches kids about values, family, and life. The Blippi videos are great for children ages 2-10 and are filled with fun facts and catchy songs.
As a freelancing mom, I have the freedom to create my own work schedule. This freedom gives me the flexibility to spend quality time with my girls, such as watching TV. One day I was sitting down watching Blippi with them and my mind went off thinking about what a smart entrepreneur Blippi is.
After watching a couple of episodes, I learned a few lessons from Blippi that I think every stay-at-home mom needs to hear, learn, and adopt.

Playing is not just something kids do
Although playing and having fun is Blippiβs day job, we can take a note from this jovial character. Itβs tough to think about fun when our mind is thinking about laundry, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, homeschooling our kids, etc. We have so much in our mind as moms that can cause us stress and decision fatigue. Taking a break and playing with your kids is super important for a stay-at-home mom. As we go through our day-to-day, we can forget the reason we stayed home as moms. We stayed home to spend time with our children, so we should play and have fun. Kids learn so much through play. Their face lights up when they play. This doesnβt have to stop when we become mothers.
Lessons from Blippi: You canβt have a bad day at the park
Getting outside for a fun day at the park is always a good idea. Depending on where you live, going outside to the park may be an easy daily activity or weekly, but getting outside for fresh air is always a positive. You will often see Blippi outside playing either solo or with friends and his smile is not just for the camera. There are so many health benefits to getting outdoors. Playing outdoors makes everyone smile. Being a stay-at-home mom can be very lonely.
Curling up with a warm blanket is always a good idea
This is self-care 101. Cuddly blanket, a cup of warm tea or coffee, and a good book. When you are a new mom, self-care may feel like an impossible concept. Do you feel it is hard enough trying to find time to do all the things when you will find time to sit and relax? From experience, there is never time to sit and relax. Be intentional and take the time to sit and relax. Whether it is for 15 mins or 45 mins, taking time to pause can be your secret weapon as a stay-at-home mom. This minor act of self-care will rejuvenate you, calm you down if you are having a rough day, or just simply allow you to reflect and enjoy the life you have. Itβs a privilege to stay at home with your family, so actually make time to enjoy it.

Lessons from Blippi: Ask for Help
Blippi did not reach this level of success doing everything himself. In earlier Blippi videos, I noticed it was only him and another friend, and camera guy (another friend Iβm sure). The videos were of inferior quality but engaging and funny and kids love them. If you continue to watch his videos, you will notice over time the quality improved, his costuming improve, the places he went and visited got more exciting. One thing Blippi did, that many stay-at-home moms struggle to do, is getting help. Blippi had helped from day one. Blippi went from just using one random singing cameraman to helping him shoot his video to now a whole production team, publicity team, marketing team, content creation team, a new co-host, and a Blippi look alike. He is now the face of the Blippi brand and not the one doing all the tasks by himself. He would not have grown as fast as he did by himself. As mothers and as freelancers, the sooner we can hire help, the more successful our businesses will be and the sooner we can get to the abundant life we want to live.
Pivoting is a game-changer
Blippi is a great example of how a pivot can rocket launch your business. When Blippi first came on the YouTube scenes, he was reenacting gross comedic stunts with a friend. I wonβt get into details, but they were very Jackass-ish (my 80s born mommies will get this show reference).
Blippi completely recreated his YouTube persona to a funny childrenβs educator. Heβs done such a good job that many people do not even know about his past and many donβt even care. His past didn’t stop him from taking control of his future. He pivoted his ideas, goals, and took a different approach to ultimately get to the success he wanted. Mama, you can pivot too.
You may have worked in a specific corporate job before being a stay-at-home mom, and are now trying to find your way around making income from home. You can use your prior knowledge and skills and pivot. Turn your corporate skills into a work-from-home freelance career. Skyβs the limit and he ran with open doors and confidence in them all and you can too.
Lessons from Blippi: Learn on the job
Learning on the job is a great way to earn money while developing skills. Not knowing how to do something keeps many of us back from even trying. In our lives, we all did not know how to do something. When we were babies, we didnβt know how to use the potty until someone taught us. We didn’t know how to count until someone taught us. As adults, we didnβt know how to manage a checking account until someone taught us. As freelancers, there may be a skill we donβt know, and guess what, someone will teach us. Blippi is great at learning on the job. He has learned how to cook, bake, be a clown, do acrobatics, jet ski, race cars, and dance on the job just to name a few. Many of the places he visits in his episodes are places where he can learn a new skill (on the job) while educating children. As freelancers, we adopt that mindset too. We will not know everything, but we have skills that are transferable and can make us money. And if we take on jobs and projects that allow us a learn as we get paid, thatβs a win-win.
Blippi is very smart. For a long time, I didnβt get the appeal. I couldnβt understand why my girls loved watching him, but after a while, I became very fascinated by his growth from a business perspective. Everything he has done has been very strategic if you pay attention and itβs inspiring to watch. He used a simple skill of having fun and wanting to teach and turned it into a multi-million dollar business. There are so many ways you can create a life you really love as a stay-at-home mom. One that doesnβt make you feel guilty for wanting to make money and having the best of both worlds. One that doesnβt make you choose your family or work or sacrifice time from your family to hustle just to make ends meet. By being open-minded, working smarter, and taking your time to learn and implement, you, too, can be a successful entrepreneur on your own terms.Β
