Why I Became A Beachbody Coach

I am a Beachbody Coach making residual passive income, inspiring people to take charge of their health goals, and helping moms make money to stay at home. And I love it! There I said it! I have been a Beachbody Coach for some years now, so this blog post is a long time coming. Here’s an honest look at why I became a Beachbody Coach that will help you decide if it’s the right business for you. 

Never in a million years did I think I’d be a stay at home mom. If you had told me that a few years ago, I would have rolled my eyes at you. I didn’t rack up student loan debt and obtain two degrees just to be a stay at home mom.

But here we are. Hi, I’m Nicole, a stay at home mom…all because of Beachbody. 

Let’s start at the beginning. In 2014, I was overweight, unhappy working my 9 to 5 in public relations and marketing, and frustrated with the direction my career was going. At the time, I couldn’t fix my career instantly, but at least I could try to get healthier. A friend of mine who I have known for years was a stay at home mom, making great money as a Beachbody Coach, and to top it all off, she had a beautiful 6 pack and was in great shape. I wanted what she had! I wanted to get healthier and be happier. It didn’t really register that she was doing all of this from the comfort of her own home because hello I went to college, I belonged in corporate America. More on that thought later. 

I bravely asked my friend what she was doing, and she gave me the 411 on Beachbody, how the products have helped her lose weight, and how the business has helped her contribute to her family financially. 

I learned that Beachbody coaches received 25% off any products they buy and use for themselves. I wanted to lose weight so in my mind, losing weight and saving money at the same time was a win win. Then she informed me that if I choose to refer people to Beachbody and they purchase, I would receive a 25% commission from the sale. So I could lose weight, save money, and earn money at the same time. Triple win! Sign me up! 

And that my friends was the beginning of my journey as a Beachbody coach. 

Ok so why does this even matter? 

This matters because looking back, being introduced to Beachbody also introduced me to the world of the stay at home moms. It introduced me to the world of entrepreneurship. Being a first generation West Indian woman from The Bronx, New York, a daughter of a construction worker and a secretary, I knew nothing about working for yourself. It opened my eyes to so much opportunity. I didn’t know so many people from different walks of life, races, and ages were working from home and actually making money doing so. I soon realized, I too could be a stay at home mom once I got pregnant (this was before I had children), and still contribute to my household financially. 

After a few months of being a Beachbody coach, I lost 35 pounds, fit into all my clothes again, had a 6 pack, felt amazing, and was so happy with life. I drank my Shakeology everyday and I did my Beachbody workouts 4 days a week for only 30 minutes and I couldn’t believe how much I truly love their products and most importantly that I was getting a weekly check deposited into my account. A small amount at the time but still earning money just from taking care of myself and reaching my own health goals. 

Beachbody has truly changed my life. Still to this day, it is my highest paying affiliate program and I am still receiving passive income from it. Becoming a coach was an easy decision for me. I knew I wanted to lose weight and I knew I wanted to save money. But this decision isn’t that easy for some and I get it. When you hear Beachbody, you either hear “Insanity”, the program by Shaun T, or you hear “MLM” or “Pyramid Scheme.” The word MLM makes people think of annoying consultants trying to sell you something you don’t want or need that’s usually cheesy and expensive. I’m proud to say that Beachbody is not a pyramid scheme. 

A pyramid scheme is an illegal business model where you’re required to recruit people to sell under you with the promise of money but no actual payouts.

At Beachbody, you do not have to recruit anybody. You can if you want to, but you will still make more money if you focus on your own business instead of trying to ride the coattails of your recruits. You will make 25% commission from your own sales versus only making 5-9% of your recruits’ sales. 

Plus, Beachbody is actually not an MLM, rather they are “direct retail” because anyone can buy their products, even without using a coach. While there are independent coaches, like me, you can simply go to the Beachbody website and purchase what you want. No coach needed.

And finally, unlike most MLM’s, Beachbody does not require you to keep an inventory of any kind or even purchase products for yourself, ever. So you are not out any money unless you choose to buy their products for your own use. I took a break from buying Beachbody products during my second pregnancy and was still earning money every week. 

MLMs get a bad rap because of the obnoxious consultants/coaches, not the business themselves. I once was an obnoxious coach, until I knew better.  So, just be cool. Think of all the things that drive you away from other MLMs, and do the complete opposite. Don’t be annoying. Seriously, it’s not that hard.

Don’t spam your Facebook friends or harass people you haven’t spoken to in years. I did that for the first couple of years and it does not work. And it makes everyone involved annoyed or feel awkward. Don’t be aggressive or pushy. Get outside of your immediate network. And most importantly, listen to people and help them. If you truly believe in your product that you are using yourself, then it will naturally shine through when you talk about it. 

I became a Beachbody coach because I genuinely love the products, use them myself and love sharing things I love with my friends. But if there is another brand that sells a better product to Beachbody, then I will tell you. No one company has perfect products that work for 100% of people especially when it comes to fitness and weight loss. You have to find what works for you. 

Since starting my blog, I started treating Beachbody like another affiliate program and not an MLM. I include links in blog posts and my emails. I post about the products I am using on social media now that I am on my postpartum health journey and I am sharing it more organically than I have in the past. This time it feels good. It feels right. 

Ok so I am sure after reading all of this, you have some questions! Let’s talk about it! I’ve included a FAQ below of the most frequently asked questions I get about being a Beachbody coach.

Q: Do Beachbody Coaches get a discount?

A: Yes! Beachbody coaches receive 25% off every purchase, in addition to other consultant perks like exclusive access to new product launches, special sampler sets and bundles that are super discounted, lots of free gifts and rewards. 

Q: How much does a Beachbody coach make?

A: Let’s just lay it all out there. You want to know what kind of salary or income you can expect? Here how it works: you can start at a 25% commission on all sales along with bonuses based on performance. Sell $100, make $25. You can also earn a commission as you get coaches to sign up under you, which is 5-9% of their sales based on performance. So it pays to build a team, but not as much as it pays to grow your own business, and it isn’t required. Below is our compensation plan, which can be confusing if you’ve never seen it before. While the income can vary quite a bit, it’s really all about what you’re willing to put into the business. Any success takes work and consistency. Like anything in life, especially business, you can’t just give up too easily before giving it a real shot. And you just can’t sit around, do nothing, say nothing, and expect sales to roll in. Do the work and it will pay off. 

Q: What is required of me as a Beachbody coach?

There is a $15.99 monthly coach fee that is required to keep your coach account active and maintenance of your sales websites. Other than there are no real requirements to coach there are recommended suggestions to help you earn money. You can choose to do them or not but it’s your business so you can decide how you want to operate. To get a sense of what a typical day for a coach looks like, check out this video!

Q: Do I have to post cheesy pictures of my protein shake on social media?

A: If you want, but it’s not required. Let’s think logically here. If you join Beachbody to run a business, you will have to think like a business person. The more you are able to share the products you love with people, the higher the chances of making sales. You can choose never to post on social media, but then you’ve been missing out on an awesome way to share these products. Ultimately, it is up to you how you want to run your business based on your goals. You can choose to send emails, write blog posts about it, go door to door (if anyone still does that), or share on social media. Your pics can be super cheesy or super cool. Your choice. 

Q: What is the difference between a coach vs. a discount coach?

The easy answer is a discount coach does not earn commission and a working coach does. Both have to go through the same sign up process and pay the same cost to sign up. Both will save 25% off their own products purchased. The difference is the decision one makes to either just enjoy the savings OR to make the decision to treat this like a business and a way to make money to earn. That’s it. Q: Is there a cost to become a coach?

Yes, like any business there is a startup cost. The good news is the start up cost to becoming a coach is the cost of your own products. It is recommended to start with a Beachbody On Demand Challenge Pack, which includes a 12-month subscription to the Beachbody online streaming service so you have access to 1,100+ workouts, nutrition plans, a month supply of Shakeology, your new coach training video, and access to the Beachbody membership. This will cost you $140 to start. It could cost you more if you choose to invest in a different challenge pack. 

Q: I’m not good at sales. Can I still be successful?

A: I’m not great at sales either. No one wants to be salesy, it’s icky. I worried about that as well when I first started as a coach. Not having a sales background can actually be a good thing because our goal is not to sell but instead to educate and share our mission and awesome products. It’s up to the other person to decide if they feel the same way we do. They may or they may not. That’s ok. Our job is simply to share with people what we are using because we love it and it’s working for us. If you think of it like suggesting a restaurant for brunch or a good book. Only we get paid for our recommendation. 

Q: I am a blogger and I’m already an affiliate for other fitness brands. Is Beachbody really better?

A: Only you can answer that question and what is best for you and your business. If you have a blog that covers any fitness or lifestyle topics and are passionate about helping others and making a difference, then I think you’d be missing a huge opportunity to pass up being a Beachbody coach. 

Plus you can be a Beachbody coach AND an affiliate for other fitness brands. I am! It’s not one of the others. 

Q: I’m not a Stay-At-Home-Mom, I already have a job, why should I become a Beachbody coach?

It’s very true that independent sales jobs are really great for stay-at-home-moms (and dads!), at the end of the day, Beachbody is a business. And like any business if you work it, you will earn. And I love that this business empowers women to be their own advocate…that’s what The Mompreneur Project is all about, helping more moms create a life on their own terms and Beachbody can help with that.

So you already have a job, that’s cool. Some coaches join just to save the 25% off all their own products. Others join to have a second source of income to pay for family vacations, pay off debt, save for retirement, etc. I cannot tell you what to do with the extra money being a Beachbody coach will bring in for you, but why wouldn’t you want to have extra money? 

The business is what you make of it. I love that women and men can create a business that fits their lifestyle, fuels their passion and supports their family. Some coaches make $50/month, $500/month or $50,000/month. So whether you just want to contribute a few hundred dollars per month for groceries, daycare for your little ones, or you are super ambitious and want to be your family’s breadwinner (my kinda mom!), Beachbody is for you. 

Q: How many Beachbody Coaches are there? Isn’t the market too saturated already?

There are 400,000 Beachbody coaches globally, that is throughout the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), Canada, and the United Kingdom. Let’s put this into perspective. There are 327.16 million people in the United States alone, meaning that’s one coach for every 8,179 people. There is room for everybody to be successful with Beachbody. And guess what, there is only one of you. People like to buy from someone they trust. I know I do. Be that person for other people. 

Q: What are some of your favorite Beachbody products?

Q: What if I hate it?

A: Beachbody has a 30-day return policy, no questions asked, even on used products. So it’s literally 100% risk free. If you sign up to become a coach and decide it is not for you, you can cancel your coach account. Be aware that if you cancel your coach account, and decide later you want to coach again, you will have to wait 6 months to sign back up as a coach.
